Purchasing Director

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general direction, responsible for the quality/procurement of supplies and equipment used in the hospital. Functional coordination of respective area with departments and outside resources. Reports to Chief Financial Officer.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Plans, organizes, directs and controls Purchasing;

Responsible for making department decisions, budget and safety;

Provides leadership, guidance, training, counseling, department orientation, and continuing education to staff;

Hires, promotes, counsels, resolves conflicts; disciplines and conducts performance appraisals; makes salary adjustments to assigned staff.

Participates in ongoing development of management and purchasing expertise; monitors and insures total quality improvement; maintains confidentiality.

Adheres to safety guidelines; communicates and interfaces with hospital personnel and others.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Extensive knowledge of the principles and application of purchasing and negotiations; basic knowledge of the principles, practices and application of management including planning, organizing, directing and controlling; basic knowledge of federal and state laws that govern the work area managed.

Skill in operating hospital equipment.

Ability to plan, organize, direct, control, and assign work for self and others; skill in coordinating and problem solving. Ability to negotiate with outside vendors; exercise complex analytical judgment in the work environment; ability to give and follow written and oral instructions and effectively record and reflect observations; ability to coordinate management and work area activities; ability to react and perform under stress and emergency situations.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Any combination of training and education in purchasing and negotiations necessary for the incumbent to perform the listed duties.

Two years of management experience is required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
